LOVES PARK, Ill. — A devastating missile barrage was unleashed on Ukraine’s capital Kiev (Kyiv) and other Ukrainian cities on Monday, causing severe damage to a children’s hospital that specializes in cancer treatment and organ transplants. Children hooked up to IV drips were forced to sit outside the hospital, awaiting emergency evacuation. At least 38 people were killed and 190 were injured in Monday’s wave of missile strikes.
Illinois-based Slavic Gospel Association (SGA, www.sga.org) has connections with the children’s hospital where 10-year-old Maryna, pictured, received vital medical care after having a leg amputated following a rocket blast next to her home.
Michael Johnson, president of SGA, has visited Ukraine many times and has his finger on the pulse of what’s happening right now on the frontline of the war — and the suffering of Ukraine’s children.
