Statement from GFA World on Lawsuit in Canada

On Thursday March 17, 2022, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Toronto, Canada dismissed a motion to certify a class action lawsuit against Gospel for Asia, Inc. (“GFA USA”) and certain current and former directors and officers.

In dismissing the certification motion, the Ontario Court, concluded, among other things, that:

  • The plaintiff “failed to show some basis in fact for his allegation that the defendants intentionally misappropriated donor funds in a manner that had no connection to any purported charitable purpose.”
  • The plaintiff’s claim does not “support the legal conclusion that he suffered a compensable loss.”
  • The plaintiff “does not provide evidence that any of the individual defendants were personally enriched.”

The Canadian lawsuit repeated serious allegations that were first made in litigation in the United States.

GFA USA has, from the beginning, maintained its belief that these lawsuits were without merit. The ministry has vigorously defended itself against the accusations.

The Ontario Court’s dismissal validates GFA USA’s position. We could not be more pleased with the outcome. We give God the praise for this good news.

We are especially grateful for GFA’s countless supporters who have continued to stand with us during this challenging season in our ministry, a season that is increasingly behind us.

In the end, our ministry is stronger for it: we have prayed more, relied upon the Lord more, and worked diligently to be even more “above reproach.”

We believe GFA’s best and most impactful work is ahead us. We have a world which needs the love of Jesus more than ever and we intend on touching every life we can, with your help.

Thank you for continuing to enable our partners’ transformative work around the world through their prayers and generosity.
